Without the proper form anything can be dangerous, whether that’s doing a movement in the gym or bending over to pick-up a bag of groceries. That is why it is required for all beginning CrossFitters to take our CrossFit Lite classes in order to help condition yourself and understand the fundamentals of what we do. We emphasize mechanics (learning how to do the movements with correct technique), consistency (the ability to do the movements over and over again with safe and relatively efficient technique) and proper intensity (the speed at which you do the movements). Our workouts sometimes encourage that we are competitive with one another, but we never sacrifice proper, safe mechanics.
Numerous clients of ours have come through the doors with previous tweaks/injuries and found relief from the pain by strengthening the muscles around the problem area. All too often people neglect exercising due to fear of injury and because of this they end up deconditioned, weak, and more susceptible to injury. Taking part in CrossFit will provide you a buffer so that you are less susceptible to these kinds of injuries. The movements and workouts are all completely scalable, meaning anyone can safely take part.
In order for people to get bigger, especially women, there are two things that you would have to make a concerted effort to do. 1) pick up very heavy weight on a frequent basis. Though we are concerned about making you stronger and we do lift heavy some days, this is not our main focus. 2) eat an extremely high calorie diet. This is also something that we do not focus on.
